OMG...Gun Shop Mayhem
Stopped by my favorite local gun shop this morning. Family owned place, and they all know me by my first name. Just wanted to stop and BS for a while over a cup of coffee...
First sign that something was different...couldn't park in the parking lot. Had to park out front along the state road. I've NEVER seen that before. There's usually 2 or 3 people at a time in the shop. Had to be 20 in there today, which made it very crowded. I think this made the owner more than a little uncomfortable. Too many people, couldn't keep an eye on everything going on. My short stop at the shop turned into about 4 hours as I played the part of employee. You name it, somebody was buying it. I was helping several people with handgun selections. I spent a lot of time with two husband-and-wife teams that really caught my attention. The main thing that stuck out? None of the 4 had ever owned or handled a handgun before. "Is this a revolver?" No, it's a semi-automatic. Let's look at revolvers. "How do I load it?" "Is this gun bigger than that gun?" "Which is better for self defense?" I know there are no stupid questions, but the "gun-ignorant" questions just kept coming. It was like talking about guns to a 6 year old. Part of me was intrigued that these people were actually waking up and worried about their future safety, while part of me was terrified at the thought of them owning or handling guns. In the time I was there, over a dozen guns went out the door. Owner says he's never seen such volume. And this is in an area of central PA that is a hotbed of hunting and shooting. Heck, I thought EVERYBODY already had guns! I see two things taking place... 1) People who never had guns feel a need to arm themselves for whatever the future may hold. 2)People who already own guns feel a need to stock up on ammo and grab any guns they may want at some point but think will soon be made unavailable. something is definitely in the air, and the masses can sense it... |
Re: OMG...Gun Shop Mayhem
I dont want to make this a race issue, but I would like to ask if you noticed this surge more in one race than another, or did it seem more or less equal across the board that people are starting to take control of their own defence?

Re: OMG...Gun Shop Mayhem
Good thread, thanks for sharing.
I'd be very interested in hearing/reading what other members are seeing at their local shops, too. |
Re: OMG...Gun Shop Mayhem
Heimdahl,
Until recently, I'd say the county I live in was about 97% white. Unfortunatley, the "minority" increase is due to increased gang enforcement in a small city about 30 miles away. They are now moving into government housing in this area, as they see it as a safe haven. Anyway, as to your question, the customers that were in the store when I was there were 100% white. Never thought of it before, but I don't know that I've ever seen anyone who wasn't white in there. And it's not a racial thing, there's just no one else around the area until recently! |
Re: OMG...Gun Shop Mayhem
SB, Thanks for your timely report... in the last month I've read plenty of similar reports coming from all parts of the country from small shops to the big boxes... everthing flying off the shelves and 8 hour wait for background checks.
Isn't it AMAZING?? Folks coming out of the woodwork for the first time...seeking what? security? and not even knowing the basics of safety and handling. Good of you to help your shop owner... Good luck |

I cant say that I blame them as even I have had these feelings and even my wife who is of mixed races(primarily irish with some mexican and native american) has seemed to feel similarly. You make a good point with the racial crime element seeping into your town and people reacting poorly(as they should) to that. |
Re: OMG...Gun Shop Mayhem
Of course white folks are stocking up...........They better.
Ask yourself a silly question: As America goes down the toliet........ do you REALLY think Obama is going to pass up the chance to blame them for the misery of the nation because they dont want to SHARE what they have??? He wont say it outright............but with that slick tounge of his , his minions are going to jump on the chance to take what others have. You mark my words: before we have TOTAL WAR.......... thers is going to be a RACE WAR first. I put it at 36 months or less. I just picked up my Saiga 12 gauge today and had to wait over 2 and half hours to get my backround check. These times are a changing..........You better believe it. T |

Re: OMG...Gun Shop Mayhem
You'd think people would've already armed up in 1964-1972 (U.S. Race Riots) or 1977 (NYC blackout/looting) or 1980 (Miami Riot) or 1987 & 1989 (Tampa Riots) or 1992 (L.A. Riots) or 1999 (Y2K) or 2001 (9/11) or 2005 (Hurricaine Katrina looting/crime wave).
Guess not. |
Re: OMG...Gun Shop Mayhem
It is human nature to relax after the immediate threat passes...........only to be caught with the pants down the next time.
Nothing will be diffrent this go round expect the stakes cant be higher for those who are unprepared. There will be no point in time to redeem yourself and "get with the program" When the doors slams THIS TIME............ THE JACKBOOTS START MARCHING. T |

Re: OMG...Gun Shop Mayhem
My quick experience today - for the first time ever no parking spots at my favorite local gun store (just like you silverbullet!). I waited until someone came out of the store and took their spot as they left. Second, there is a gun show today, tried to go - no parking spots either!!! Finally parked, a huge line of people and they raised the price to $10 to get in!!! I changed my mind thinking I'd never make it through that many people. Needless to say, I've never seen it like this.

MOST of those new gun owners will never even fire it......they will keep it in a box "in a safe location" with a box of ammo collecting dust somewhere else. |

But at least they will have "peace of mind." LOL.. |

That is the same thing I think of when I ( I rarely do anymore ) visit the outdoor store here and see folks buying the latest in super duper suspension never feel the load titanium triple space age comfort mega cubic inch backpacks and assorted supplies. |
Re: OMG...Gun Shop Mayhem
Funny I just picked up a Saiga 12 today too. Thanks for the links, it only came with one mag.
It was busy but not crazy, about 10 people. Owner says very busy hard to get stock. Also picked up DPMS AP4 308 and Stag 5.56 20" barrel. |
Re: OMG...Gun Shop Mayhem
Went to an estate auction this morning. They had about 10 firearms for sale. jeez, no bargains here An old, little Berreta .22LR pistol went for $375. A Colt 44 Anaconda revolver went for $875. An old Ruger 1022? LR for $175 (no sight), A very old Ruger .223 Mini14 went for $450.
Tha auctioneer said there were 350 transactions statewide already in line to be processed by our state firearms bureau. On a normal day there are only 25-50 in the queue at any one time. |
Re: OMG...Gun Shop Mayhem
I hardly ever see black people in a gun store, and if they are, I'll bet "Def-Con" increases...same as in a jewelery store

Re: OMG...Gun Shop Mayhem
It isn't all about race. The same thing happened when Clinton took office. His announcement about signing the background checks and assault weapons ban sold more guns than ever before that time.

I am thinking that generally, white folks are expecting the 2nd Amendment to vanish, and are stocking up accordingly. I have not heard any chatter with regard to any possible racial riots, etc. |
Re: OMG...Gun Shop Mayhem
Last Tuesday I went into a shop and it was standing room only.
There is a strange dynamic going on. Currently the Gun Laws are relaxing in many States at a time when Americans are most Anxcious about our Government. If I were a Conspiracy Guy I would ? E-A |

It was pretty crowded, but not as crowded as I expected. That said, some aisles were so full I had to revisit them later. Tons of handguns as usual. Prices weren't noticeably higher, but my only way to judge was by looking at the Glocks. A good amount of AR's, but not as many as usual and seemed to be much more expensive. The cheapest AR I saw was $1100, but I didn't look real close. Magazines were in short supply and way more expensive. Glock mags $25-32 for instance. Never have I seen so little ammo at a gunshow. The biggest ammo vendor reserved quite a few tables less than they usually do, and it was obvious why. They had way less than usual to sell. Way less. If there was a single round of .308 in the joint I didn't see it. Didn't even bother to look at prices. Shocking price tags on junk guns. New CAI Cetme $950 (but saw a quality PTR91 for about the same price), a couple SKS's for $400. :confused_ma: As luft mentioned, tons of buying going on. I'm not pleased to hear another GIM'r was there and we didn't meet and shoot the breeze. |

That is the agenda, and Obama is merely a "minion" of the banksters. And if you think anyone other than the banksters are in charge, what other industry could "fail" and then bail themselves out with unlimited taxpayer funds? Rather than point the finger at Obama, take the fight to the actual enemy. And thanks to the OP for the thread. Anecdotal evidence is much appreciated. |
